Welcome to Podcasting for Latina CEOs, the go-to podcast for passion preneurs Latinas, ready to launch and grow their online businesses and own their voice with podcasting. I'm Hayley La Cruz, writer, two-time award-winning podcaster, and podcast launch coach on a mission to help you build a life of freedom, wealth, and impact by turning your ideas into income. If you're a Latina ready to break generational cycles and create your own table, this show is for you. Let's build our dreams on that. Does this sound familiar? You've been wanting to start your podcast for the past few months or maybe even years. You keep saying that you'll start when you have more time, more money, more confidence, or better equipment. But what if the thing that is holding you back isn't actually what you think it is? So I actually have a quiz. I created a quiz earlier this year to help aspiring podcasters figure out what is really holding them back from starting the podcast. Before I get into the quiz, I want to share a testimony from another client of mine. I actually did a SEO audit for her. And her name is Heidi, just like my name, spelled exactly the same way, H-E-I-D-Y. She is the host of the confident, magnetic, and wealthy podcast. And she said, Wow, I'm already ranking number one and number five for my top keywords. Thank you so much for your SEO audit and recommendations. The recommendations were quick and easy to implement. I've seen a spike in downloads in the last couple of days, and the episodes we optimize are now my top plate episodes. What we did was that I asked her what were the top keywords that she wanted to rank for on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and she gave them to me. So I did an audit of her show notes, her episode titles, and things like that. And I gave her recommendations on where to optimize for these keywords. And then we checked back in two weeks to check her ranking again. And even before the two weeks time, she sent me a message and she was like, Oh my gosh, I'm already seeing a spike in downloads. And then she also saw that the number one way that people were finding her show was through the search on Spotify. And she received an email stating, hey, I found your podcast when I searched for blah, blah, blah. And it was her keyword. So podcast SEO optimization works in discoverability and having people find your show and your episodes. And it's literally the best way to help grow your podcast. So if you're wanting an SEO audit, I do them for $97. I will give you the recommendations and we'll check back in two weeks to check your ranking of your podcast. Now, let's get into the quiz. What is really holding you back from starting your podcast? So a lot of people think that it's like, oh, I need, I don't have time, I need the equipment, I need this and that. But what most people don't know is that you don't need more information to start the podcast. You need clarity, and we need to know what is keeping you stuck. So I had a client once who went through my coaching program six weeks, and at the end, it was time for her to record her first episode. So we had gotten to the point where we had recorded the trailer and published it. But then it was time to record the first episode and publish it. And she couldn't do it. And I felt so bad because I'm like, oh my God, you paid me all this money. We went through the program and she wasn't able to launch. And obviously, there was something deeper going, you know, there was something deeper going on as to why she couldn't launch. And that is really what this quiz is going to help you figure out. Like, what is actually holding you back going on deeper? Because a lot of people get stuck in like the research process, right? And like, oh, I need to figure this out. I need the equipment, I need that. But really, there's something more going on. So I created this quiz to stop you from over-consuming content, to not stay stuck in the research mode, to help you stop comparing yourself to others, and to stop thinking that you need everything to be perfect before you start. I mean, even with starting my own podcast, I had no idea what I was, literally no idea what I was doing. I started with my phone and go listen to my first episode. It is horrible. Not of this podcast. My immigration podcast, The American Dream and the Eyes of Immigrants. That first episode, I laugh now because it's hilarious, but I literally had no idea what I was doing. And you can hear me or my cousin going back and forth, like, can you hear me? No, can you hear me? No. And I was gonna delete it, but then when I was editing it, I was like, I literally had tears in my eyes of crying so or of laughing so hard. And I was like, oh my god, no, I gotta keep this and now I use that as motivation to help other spying podcasters. It's like I had no idea what I was doing at first. No one knows what they're doing at first, and it's okay, but also I am here to help you. This is literally what I do. This is literally why this podcast exists to help you launch. So, what is actually stopping you from launching your podcast? The quiz is in the show notes in the show description. Email me your results, Heidi at HeidiDelacruz.com, and let's work through it. So, one of the things that could be holding you back from starting your podcast is the fear of judgment. You're worried about what family and friends may think, you're worried about sounding awkward, you may have a legitimate fear of putting yourself out online, and you're probably waiting for approval before you start. But guess what? You do not need everyone to understand your vision in order to begin. Because when God gave you that nudge to start a podcast, it was not a conference call. It was just you and him. Your friends were not there, your family was not there, your significant other wasn't there. It was just you and God. God plant that seed in your heart for a reason. One thing that you can do to help you overcome this fear is practice recording for yourself. Practice recording like one to three episodes yourself before you send it out there. And what I love doing with my clients is that I have them practice recording. I'm like, okay, record one or two episodes or record your trailer episode, send it to me so that I can give you feedback. And then I tell them clearly like, it may take you one to two or three takes to record that one episode, but that's okay because all of this is new and you need to get your reps in before you're able to knock it out of the park quickly. But sometimes you'll make mistakes and that's okay, and that's where editing comes in, right? So even with this podcast, sometimes I make mistakes. Sometimes I'll leave them, sometimes I'll edit it out. It really depends. But it's okay. You're not live, you're it's pre-recorded, you can edit out the parts that you don't like and resay the parts that you know that you messed up on, right? Another reason why someone may be holding back on starting the podcast is the perfectionism. Thinking that everything has to be perfect. The perfect microphone, the perfect branding, the perfect intro, the perfect website. All of that is excuses. Like you literally do not need all that fancy equipment that you see to start a podcast. I literally have two clients right now who are starting their podcast on their phone. They downloaded Riverside, which is the same app that I'm using to record, on their phone. They bought external mics and they're recording on their phone. And so then I am able to go in on Riverside, get the file, listen to it. They can send it to me, they can send me a link of the recording. I listen to it and I provide feedback. It's that easy. You can literally start on your phone. Your first episode is supposed to be your worst episode, which is exactly what I said earlier. Man, that first episode. But guess what? I didn't have a person like me when I got started, which is why I became that person that I wish I had to help you. So you don't have to do this by yourself. You don't have to make these silly mistakes by yourself. But if you do, it's okay. It is okay. I actually, one of my editing clients, I love the behind the scenes of like them recording of like when they mess up or when like they say something and then they start laughing. And it makes me laugh because they are having so much fun messing up and recording and not being perfect. And I absolutely love seeing that behind the scenes. Honestly, like podcasting is a lot of fun, and you are actually not going to feel ready to start your podcast until you start recording because confidence comes from taking action. You don't feel confident before you take action. You start messy, you work through the kinks, you get better, and that's how you gain the confidence. Another reason why someone may be holding back on starting their podcast is the lack of clarity. They may not know what to talk about, who the podcast is for, or how often to podcast. But hello, that's literally what the voice method helps you with. I am literally giving you the blueprint on how to start. Like you don't have to figure this all out on your own. The voice method, there's episode 11 that you can literally listen to for free, and it walks you through the voice method. And then there's also the workbook with the voice method that is $19.99. That's all you need to invest, is $19.99, and it also literally walks you through the steps on what to talk about, who the podcast is for, how often to post. Clarity again also comes through action. So taking that first step of listening to episode 11, and then the next step of purchasing the workbook, that's where the clarity comes. Now, if you would like to get on a one-hour call with me and we can work through all these questions, it's only $70. You can also get that link in the stand store, and we can sit down for one hour and literally map out and strategize your podcast, and I can answer all of your podcasting questions. You don't need a five-year podcast plan to start. Literally, just season one. Just start with season one, and that's and that's it. And then from there, we can review your analytics, see what episodes your audience liked most, and then plan for season two and and and keep going. All right, another reason is fear of technology. You know, I have a hot take. I have a podcast hot take. And if you've been following me on threads, then you know that I truly believe you do not need video to start your podcast. So if video feels intimidating or overwhelming or too much, don't do video. Again, the two clients that I'm helping launch on their phone, they're not doing video. They are literally recording audio only on their phone. And that is okay. Why? Because you got to remember that podcasting is an audio first medium. People are listening to podcasts before they are watching podcasts. And the data shows it. The data is still showing that people are listening more than what they are watching. Podcast is audio first. So start with your phone. Start recording in your voice memos and then upload it to Riverside and edit it. And then you can also use Riverside to host your podcast. So you can use one app, Riverside to Record, to edit, and host your podcast from your phone. Don't overcomplicate it. It's not that hard. You do not need to be tech savvy to become a podcaster at all. Now, if you ever get to the point where you want to outsource your editing or you just don't want to take the time to learn, that's perfectly fine because I do offer editing services as well. I'm telling you, I'm really, really, really making this as easy as possible. As yes, it's easy as possible. Man, when I tell you that it took me so long to be able to get as fast as an editor that I am now, like, ooh, 30-minute episodes used to take me almost two and a half hours to edit. Like it took forever. But obviously, the more that I did it, the faster that I got. And then now I know exactly like what to look for to take out. So again, if you do not want to do that, that's perfectly fine. You can outsource it. I actually enjoy editing episodes. I love being in the behind the scenes of helping other people launch their podcasts and taking them from idea to launch, but then also supporting them in the back end. So one of my editing clients, I honestly do more than just edit. Like she texts me questions whenever it comes up. We've been able to strategize certain things together, like marketing and repurposing and things like that. So really, I become more than just an editor for you. I literally will become your podcast go-to, right? When you have any questions or suggestions or any strategy things, like I'm there for you. So you literally can text me and we'll work through it. So I end up being more than just an editor. Okay, the next reason why someone may be holding back from starting their podcasts is time and consistency concern. People thinking podcasting requires daily content creation or a weekly content creation, you know, and also thinking about balancing podcasts with work, with parenting, with business and life responsibilities. That's all valid. But I let me give you me for an example. And I may not be the best example because I do work from home for corporate. So that's what I was gonna say. Like I have a corporate job and I host three podcasts: the American Dream and the As of Immigrants, which is a weekly podcast. I host this one, Podcasting for Latina CEOs, which is a bi-weekly podcast. And I just started a podcast with my husband called Life of De la Cruces, but that one is a monthly podcast. And so my immigration podcast, it is video and audio. And again, it's weekly. I do have my VA edit for me on that. And she just started doing video clips for me. So she makes those and schedules those out for me. Um, my this podcast, I do everything. I record, I plan out the episodes, I outline them, I record them, I edit them, I create blog posts for them, and then um I get clips from Riverside, and then I schedule those out. For the podcast with my husband and I, that one is audio only. And that also is again, like I said, it's monthly. So we I record that obviously and edit that, and then I upload it on Substack. So time and consistency concerns, I absolutely get it. What I love helping my clients do is getting clear on their schedule and their capacity. You do not need a weekly podcast to be successful. You could do it bi-weekly, you could do it monthly, you could do seasons, and within those seasons, you could do bi-weekly and have six episodes. And so, like, that's three months of content right there. Like, I really help clients make podcasting consistent for their schedule. You don't have to do what doesn't work for you because another podcaster is doing that. Okay. Um, consistency matters more than frequency, and the consistency is what works for you. Okay, so I definitely understand, like, oh, I'm adding another thing to my plate, this and that, but you make it work for you. And the great thing about podcasting is again, it's that it's evergreen. You have one long-term, long form content that you publish, and you can repurpose that into other content, which is the other episode that I talk about, like how to repurpose your podcast episodes. So using, so think about it, using your podcast for business, instead of creating so many different or starting from scratch, trying to create so many different pieces of content, you literally use your podcast and then you create multiple. So I definitely understand the time and the consistency concerns. However, we I will help you make it work for you and your schedule. So, like I said, podcasting is a long-term platform, is long form content. It's evergreen, so it's something that you can use for years to come and you can repurpose into so many different pieces of content. Confidence comes after publishing. You're not gonna feel ready to start a podcast. You have to take action to then feel ready and confident. The most successful podcasters they start messy. In my course, in my how to launch a podcast course or the voice method course, I actually have three exclusive interviews on podcasters that they share their story of like how they started, why they started, and they provide tips. And they all say the same thing like you start before you're ready, you start messy. They they had no idea what they were doing. But it's like now there's people like me to help you start. The people you admire, they felt scared too. Because again, this is something new that you've never done before. There came a point, there was a point once where I I didn't know what I was doing. And because I didn't know how long I was gonna podcast for, that's why I had not I did not invest in equipment right away because I didn't know how long I was gonna podcast for. So I was like, I'm not gonna spend hundreds of dollars on equipment when I don't know how long this project is gonna last. So it wasn't until like six months in that I'm like, oh, I really like podcasting. Like I can see myself doing this long term. And then I and then I invested in my first mic. But yeah, just start with what you have. Start with your phone, just start recording. It does not need to be perfect. No one wants perfect, anyways. Your audience is not going to connect with perfect because guess what? Perfect doesn't exist. They want to connect with authenticity, they want to connect with the messiness, they want to connect with who you are.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00The longer you wait to feel ready, the longer your future listeners have to wait to hear your voice.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Again, if God put it in your heart to start a podcast, there's a reason for that. Someone out there needs your story, they need your experience, they need to see you doing the thing so they can see that somebody looks like them doing the thing. Right? This is also why I'm very, very passionate about helping Latinas start their podcast because I'm a Latina. So I am the example of what is possible for a Latina in the podcasting space. Winning two awards, ranking 5% globally on the in the podcasting charts, ranking number one for immigration. Like all of that is possible because I started and I can help you do the same. All right. Take the quiz. The link is in the show notes in the show description for YouTube and send me your results. Let's talk it through. And if you're serious about starting your podcast but still feel stuck, take the quiz. Find out what's really holding you back because once you identify the block, you can finally move forward. Lastly, remember, I do have a weekly podcast newsletter where I go deeper into podcasting tips. That is every Wednesday, unlike this podcast, that is every other Thursday. So every Wednesday, you can get more podcasting tips, strategies, behind the scenes on how I do it all. Um, the link to join the email list is in the show notes and the show description as well. And don't forget, you can always text me questions, podcasting questions. And I am still looking for someone who wants free podcast coaching here, right here on the show. So if you would have a podcasting question that you actually want me to answer on the show, let me know and we can set that up. But again, thank you so, so, so much for being here for another week, another episode. I can't wait to help you start your podcast and take you from idea to launch in six weeks or less. I truly, truly get so much joy doing this and recording these episodes and just being here for you. So until next time, como mucho amor, coach Heidi. Thank you for listening to Mami Bacas.
